The Ecomuseo de Larraul is an ethnographic museum dedicated to the essence of rural life in the Basque Country. It also focuses on how the rural environment of the Basque Country has changed over the past decades. The museum thus combines a view of rural life with its development over time. A guided visit to the Ecomuseo de Larraul also includes a visit to the Church of San Esteban. The museum and church therefore form part of a combined visitor experience, without either place losing its own historical significance.

Church and Architectural Heritage

The Church of San Esteban is the oldest building in Larraul. Its origins date back to the 14th century; at the same time, it features Gothic-Renaissance design. The church also contains a 16th-century Romanist grisaille. It is considered the only grisaille of its kind in Gipuzkoa. The church therefore brings together considerable age, a clearly identified architectural style and a single work of art with its own distinct period attribution.

Among Larraul's historically and architecturally significant sights is the Txurigain Mill. The Sorrarain farmhouse has been designated a cultural asset by the Basque Government. These two names complement the church with further buildings of historical or heritage significance. The different types of buildings are among the tangible cultural landmarks associated with Larraul.

Walks and Mountain Routes

Larraul's natural surroundings offer opportunities for pleasant walks. For a hike with several summit destinations, a circular route through Larraul leads to Murgil, Almitxuri and Mugallegi. The route links Larraul with three explicitly named peaks, directing the hike along a sequence of specific mountain destinations. Walks and this circular route thus represent different ways of experiencing the natural surroundings.

Nature Trails to Historic Destinations

A nature route in Larraul leads to the Olazar ironworks (Ibeltz). The destination is therefore identified not only by the nature trail but also by its designation as a historic ironworks. Another nature route leads to the Gorringadi Mill in a short time. In this way, the routes mentioned connect natural paths with two different historic destinations: an ironworks and a mill.
