On the way

A stage of the Way of St. James reaches the village of Olaberria. It passes through the Garitain farmstead.

The hiking trail between Olaberria and Idiazabal partly follows the Way of St. James. This Way of St. James route is known as the Camino del Norte.

At the end of May, Santi Etxezarreta’s transhumance begins on foot at his farmstead in Olaberria. From this farmstead, the route leads via Idiazabal. It then follows the Way of St. James through the San Adrián Cave to the meadows of Urbia.

Olaberria is part of the GR 283. This route is called the Ruta del Queso Idiazabal. It is an officially certified six-stage circular route along the production cycle of Idiazabal cheese.
