Discover Barakaldo: Nature Trails, Cultural Heritage and Gardens
Culture and Nature
The CIHMA is an interpretive and exhibition centre in El Regato, a well-preserved rural natural area, and provides information about the history, cultural heritage and environment of Barakaldo.
Thus, in El Regato, the description of a rural landscape comes together with the presentation of its history, cultural heritage and environment.
Trails through the Landscape
If you are looking for a clearly named starting point and a fixed destination for a hike, the PR®-BI 210 begins in the Gorostitza district, follows the Castaños River and leads to the Gorostitza reservoir.
The PR®-BI 101 is a circular route with scenic appeal and natural interest.
On the PR®-BI 101, you cross the limestone karst of Haitz Zurietako; the route also connects several chapels with a pilgrimage tradition.
Within Barakaldo, the same PR®-BI 101 runs along the Larrazabalgo galtzada, passes the Agate Deunaren baseliza and crosses the Haitz-Zuriak karst.
The two PR®-BI trails are designed differently: the PR®-BI 210 leads from the aforementioned district to the reservoir, while the PR®-BI 101 is a circular route that combines several landscape and cultural references in its description.
The Malla Verde is a network of walking and cycling paths that connects urban and peri-urban green spaces in Barakaldo and explicitly accommodates both means of transport.
There is a reservoir in the El Regato district, surrounded by a bidegorri with benches and fountains; the aforementioned facilities belong to this route along the water.
Culture and Gardens
The Palacio Munoa was converted into a mansion in the style of the French Second Empire.
The Cargaderos de Mineral of Orkonera and Franco-Belga are testimonies to Barakaldo’s industrial past.
The Ramón Rubial Botanical Garden of Barakaldo is a living museum in the urban area, where vegetation becomes art.
The garden of Finca Munoa contains 652 trees and 100 shrubs of various species.
Organised groups can request a botanical visit to Finca Munoa to learn about the different plants and garden features.
Events and Programmes
As part of the patron saint festivities of Barakaldoko Karmenak 2026, the traditional Feria Agrícola is scheduled to take place in Barakaldo from 11 to 19 July.
