Discover Izarra: Nature, Culture and Holiday Apartments

The “El bosque y el agua” route begins in Izarra’s Ostuño Forest. From this starting point, it leads to the Cascada de Gujuli waterfall and onwards to the Lamioxin Lagoon.

Nature

Parque de Ostuño offers swimming pools. The sports facilities include football and tennis courts. There is also a children’s area, as well as picnic areas and barbecue facilities. The park also has a fountain, toilets, a bar and changing rooms.

At the entrance to Ostuño recreational park stands the protected individual tree known as Tejo de Doña Lola, between the Ondona and Marrobaro streams. The walking path on La Calzada mountain is 4 km long. It has information panels and benches, as well as a fountain.

Lamioxin Lagoon is located near Izarra. In the area around Izarra, a well-signposted track leads to the lagoon from the right-hand side of the A-2521 road. The Cascada de Gujuli waterfall is located near Izarra and plunges over a limestone escarpment with a height difference of more than 100 metres. It lies in the Sierra de Gibijo and can be reached on foot from Izarra.

The Nervión waterfall is also located in the Sierra de Gibijo and can be reached on foot from Izarra. A path leads to the viewpoint at the Cascada de Gujuli waterfall; it branches off to the right from the A-2521 road before Goiuri. This junction is on the route from Izarra or Vitoria-Gasteiz towards Orduña. Several paths starting from Izarra lead to interesting places, including the Godamo oak grove.

Culture

Izarra celebrates its main festivities from 30 September to 3 October. The festivities are dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary.

The eastern part of Izarra is known as Barrio Nuevo and La Estación. It developed during the industrial boom of the 19th century. The railway station building in Izarra dates from 1863.

The San José Church stands in Izarra’s Barrio Nuevo. It dates from 1948.

The Irubidaur Ethnographic Museum is housed in an old manor house next to a bridge. It displays objects from domestic life, as well as items related to agriculture, hunting and livestock farming. Other objects relate to traditional crafts and the railway.
