Lalastra – Nature Park, Hiking Trails and Holiday Apartments

Lalastra lies in the heart of Valderejo Nature Park and is the starting point for its routes and hiking trails.

Different ways of accessing the landscape therefore come together in the village itself: trails start at the Centro de Interpretación, while the Casa del Parque serves as a reception, information and interpretation centre. The village thus combines orientation within the nature park with specific starting points for explorations.

Nature

The cliffs of Valderejo are home to the largest griffon vulture colony in the Basque Country.

If you would like to observe griffon vultures and other cliff-dwelling birds, you will find a birdwatching site at El Cubo focused on cliffs and rocky areas.

The cliffs and the observation site oriented towards them are direct landscape features visible in the nature park. The view of the rocky areas complements the trails through forests, waterways and gorges with another perspective on nature.

Mount El Cueto is located in the vicinity of Lalastra, as is Mount Alto de la Mota.

In the wider regional surroundings of Lalastra are Mount La Cotorra and the Salto del Nervion waterfall.

The Iglesia de San Vicente de Añes church is also located in the wider regional surroundings of Lalastra.

Hiking Trails and Discoveries

Those wishing to start a hiking trail directly in Lalastra will find the start of the Senda Purón opposite the Centro de Interpretación; the Senda Portilla also begins at the same place and gently climbs through a pine forest.

The two trailheads are therefore located at the same point of orientation, but differ in their described routes. The Senda Portilla initially leads gently through pine forest, while the Senda Purón connects forests, waterways, cascades and a gorge.

The Senda Purón passes through pine and holm oak forests and runs alongside clear waterways and cascades.

The trail leads to a gorge approximately 500 m long.

The approximately 500 m-long gorge forms a clearly named section within the course of the trail. Together with the clear waterways and cascades, it creates a sequence of different landscape features, without the trail losing its starting point in Lalastra.

In Lalastra, an interpretive circular walk through visitable ethnographic features begins at the ethnographic museum.

The circular walk complements the nature trails with an insight into the village’s ethnographic features. Its beginning at the museum and the two trailheads opposite the Centro de Interpretación mark different starting points within Lalastra.

Places in the Village

The Casa del Parque de Valderejo serves as a reception, information and interpretation centre.

The Área recreativa de Lalastra recreation area is located behind the Casa del Parque in the village of Lalastra.

The site includes wooden tables and benches, as well as a covered area.

There are also barbecue areas and swings.

Toilets and drinking water are available in the recreation area.

Waste collection is also among the facilities available there.

The recreation area therefore combines seating, a covered area, barbecue areas and swings with the aforementioned amenities. Its location behind the Casa del Parque places it geographically within the village area of Lalastra.

Access to the Nature Park

The Parking de Lalastra car park is the only access point to Valderejo Nature Park.
