Routes

The official Camí de Cavalls includes a Ciutadella–Cap d'Artrutx stage. After Sa Caleta, the route reaches Cala Santandria; along the coastal path, it continues beside the sea to Cala Blanca. From Ciutadella, Cala Santandria can be reached by car via the Ronda Sud. From Sa Caleta, Cala Santandria can be reached on foot in five minutes. Cala Santandria is also accessible by public transport. Cala Santandria and Sa Caleta belong to the urban development of the same name.

History

The Torre des Castellar was built next to the Castle of Sant Nicolau to defend Menorca against Napoleonic threats. Cala Santandria can be seen from the Torre des Castellar. The Torre des Castellar is the only one of the eleven towers built on Menorca with an underground entrance.

Cala Santandria has prehistoric hypogea that were used as communal burial sites more than two thousand years ago. The rock chambers opposite the bus stop in Cala Santandria belong to the same necropolis. Some of the prehistoric hypogea were converted into trenches or machine-gun nests during the Spanish Civil War. Thus, in Cala Santandria, prehistoric burial chambers stand alongside later historical traces and the Torre des Castellar with its distinctive construction.
