Nature
The Cala Tirant–Binidonairet area includes a dune zone extending about 2 km inland. The same area also contains a wetland. Cala Tirant–Binidonairet forms part of the Reserva Marina del Nord de Menorca. The coast, dune zone, wetland and marine protected area therefore stand alongside one another as clearly named components of the same area.
Geology
On the western side of Cala Tirant there are geological outcrops containing rocks considered to be the oldest in the Balearic Islands. Fossils of graptolites in the rocks of Cala Tirant date their deposition to around 400 million years ago, in the Late Silurian to Early Devonian. From the turn-off to the Camí de Cavalls, the geological site can be reached after about 900 m on foot in the direction of Cavalleria.
Paths and transport
The Camí de Cavalls includes a section called “Cala Tirant - Binimel·là”. The regular IB-08 passenger transport service connects Fornells with Maó and Fornells with Es Mercadal, serving Cala Tirant (Platges de Fornells), among other places. Surf lessons normally take place on Cala Tirant beach in Platges de Fornells.
