Architecture, Church and Rural Heritage
The traditional houses in S'Arracó are low-rise and have small vegetable gardens or gardens. The village also has several modernist-style houses, most of them on the main street, Carrer França. These different building types give the village its distinctive architectural character. The former school is also part of the village's history: today it is the Casa de Cultura.
The Sant Crist Church was built in 1704. It has a Baroque altarpiece dedicated to the Holy Christ. Another altarpiece is dedicated to the Mare de Déu de la Trapa; the image in it comes from the former monastery of the same name, which no longer exists. In this way, the church's furnishings link local sacred art with the memory of the former monastery.
The former estates of Son Guillem, Son Joan, Son Castell and Son Nadal are part of the area's rural history. They bear witness to the village's rural economy. Mills and waterwheels also recall S'Arracó's agricultural past. Together, these names and structures form a historical contrast with the modernist-style houses.
Hiking, Market and Cultural Programme
One of S'Arracó's most popular hiking routes leads uphill to La Trapa Monastery. The climb offers a different focus from exploring architecture and church history. If you would like to include a hike in your plans, it provides an active alternative alongside the village's cultural themes.
S'Arracó's market offers, among other things, artisan olive products, preserves, honey, jams, wine and liqueurs. Plants, flowers and textiles are also available. The selection therefore includes more than food and drink. Market offerings can change, so check the latest details before planning your visit around them.
One specific, dated cultural event was Nit de l'Art 2025, whose programme included photography exhibitions and sculptures in Plaça General Weyler.
Andratx as a Distinct Cultural Context
In the wider destination of Andratx, the town of Andratx is the administrative and cultural centre of its municipality. It has shops, restaurants, cultural offerings, medical facilities and sports facilities. The Church of Santa María de Andratx was built in 1248 as a parish church. Its Baroque altarpieces are dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary, the Virgin Mary and Saint Sebastian. The church also houses the painting Quadre des Moros, which depicts the Turkish landing in Andratx on 2 August 1578.
Andratx also offers its own historical themes for exploring on foot: the Ruta del Pariatge is a short circuit through the historic centre, where you can explore historic buildings and streets. In the old quarter of Es Pantaleu, you can also take a walk through Andratx's past and history along its streets.
