Coves, waterfront promenade and views
Near Port d’Andratx lies Cala Llamp, a natural cove between Morro des Garrover and Sa Punta des Cocó, at the foot of the 300-metre-high Puig de sa Talaia. It is 120 metres long and 20 metres wide. Playa Brismar, also known as Ses Bassetes, offers a different coastal view: this beach, about 30 metres long, lies on the waterfront promenade in the centre of Port d’Andratx and overlooks the bay. Its name comes from a nearby hotel.
La Mola is accessible from Port d’Andratx. At sunset, the view takes in the open sea and Dragonera on the horizon. From Cala Llamp, a walking route of about four kilometres also leads to the Torre de Sant Carles; suitable footwear is recommended. Check local trail conditions before setting out. The Torre de Sant Carles is a military fortification dating from the 14th century, built to protect the port of Andratx from pirate attacks. Sant Carles on La Mola is one of the defensive towers of Port d’Andratx.
Art and culture in Port d’Andratx
Pop art and abstract art feature prominently at the HMH Art Gallery. Visitors can also view and, where possible, purchase collages, figurative paintings, conceptual art, digital art and screen prints in oil, acrylic or lacquer. The media on display may change over time. The church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen is another example of religious architecture in Port d’Andratx.
The Mare de Déu del Carme festival, held in honour of the patron saint of fishermen and of Port d’Andratx, includes a maritime procession. It connects the town with its fishing traditions, while the art gallery showcases a wide range of artistic expressions. Together, they offer different cultural perspectives without limiting your stay to a single focus.
Historic places in the wider destination of Andratx
The wider destination of Andratx also has its own historical points of interest. The old quarter of Es Pantaleu can be explored along its streets as a journey through Andratx’s past and history. The short Ruta del Pariatge also passes through the historic centre, taking in historic buildings and streets. Es Pantaleu is home to the Torre de So na Gaiana, a freestanding defensive tower dating from the 15th century. Its entrance portal and some original windows have been preserved.
The former Son Mas estate has housed Andratx Town Hall since 1998 and is considered one of the area’s most emblematic buildings; it is recommended as a place to visit. The church of Santa María de Andratx was built as a parish church in 1248. Its Baroque altarpieces are dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary, the Virgin Mary and Saint Sebastian. The church also houses the painting Quadre des Moros, which depicts the Turkish landing at Andratx on 2 August 1578.
