A Via Crucis through the historic old town
The Via Crucis Urbà runs through the streets of the historic old town. It dates from the early 18th century and consists of stone bas-reliefs that visitors can view along the route. This way, a walk through the town becomes an encounter with a tangible testament to its religious history. The reliefs give the route a distinctive focus: rather than simply passing through the streets, you can take a closer look at the individual stations and their sculptural design. Collections on the history and culture of Mallorca
The main collection of the Col·lecció Museogràfica Fundació Cosme Bauçà has an ethnographic focus. The collection also features a wide variety of figures: African sculptures, small figures of Hindu deities, Japanese netsuke and figures from the traditional Mallorcan nativity scene. Church architecture and traditions
The Parroquia de Sant Miquel was built in the 16th century. Its single-nave layout and main portal reflect different architectural forms: the portal combines Neo-Gothic elements with Balearic Churrigueresque style. Inside, depictions of the Evangelists appear in the stained-glass windows beneath a rib vault. Those interested in church architecture can take note of the contrast between the clear, simple layout of the nave and the portal’s intricate design.
El Calvari also brings together architectural history and religious tradition. The chapel was completed in 1856; today, El Calvari is an oratory dedicated to Santo Cristo del Calvari. Solemn celebrations are held there annually on two recurring dates: the Sunday near 8 September, the anniversary of the coronation of the Virgin Mary, and the first Sunday after Easter. These occasions give the site a place in Felanitx’s religious calendar.
Market day, art and wine
The Felanitx weekly market takes place on the last day of each week, except when Easter, Christmas or New Year’s holidays fall on that day. Items on offer include food, handicrafts, clothing and shoes. The mix of everyday goods and handcrafted products makes the market a distinctive way to discover local offerings.
The annual Nitx de l’Art cultural event adds exhibitions, live music and other activities that bring the streets to life. It is organised by the Casa de Cultura together with the Ajuntament de Felanitx and opens the Sant Agustí festivities.
