Sant Vicent de sa Cala begins with a precisely defined historic ensemble: it comprises a circle with a radius of 250 metres, whose centre is the church. Several traditional payesic farmhouses have been preserved within this ensemble. Thus, spatial order and traditional rural building forms come together in a clearly defined part of the village.

Culture

The church of Sant Vicent de sa Cala has a single-nave layout with a barrel vault and six chapels. It was built at the beginning of the 19th century to serve the faithful in the north-east of Ibiza. Its architectural features and period of construction are therefore among the defining cultural references of the village.

Another historic site is the cave of Es Culleram. It is a Punic sanctuary dating from the 5th to the 2nd century BC and was dedicated to the Carthaginian goddess Tanit. The Cova des Culleram archaeological site yielded more than 600 complete terracotta votive figures. Es Culleram refers to the cave, while Cova des Culleram refers to the associated archaeological site.

The patron saint festivities of Sant Vicent de sa Cala also combine local traditions, culture and sport in an extensive programme of events for all age groups. They are celebrated on 5 April. For several years, the traditional Ballada pagesa at Pou des Baladre in April has been part of these patron saint festivities.

The church stands on a small hill and offers panoramic views over the valley and the sea. Pou des Baladre lies beside the stream of sa Cala, behind the church and near the road towards ses Caletes. Thus, the church, watercourse and road connection each appear in their own spatial location within the village landscape.

The Punic sanctuary of Cova des Culleram is open to the public in summer and by prior arrangement. A visit is therefore possible under the two stated conditions: during the summer opening period or with access arranged in advance.

One hiking route is entitled “Pou des Beladre, Es Culleram y Església de Sant Vicent de sa Cala desde Sant Vicent de sa Cala”. It starts in Sant Vicent de sa Cala and leads to Pou des Beladre, Es Culleram and the church of Sant Vicent de sa Cala.
