Sant Llorenç De Balàfia is closely associated with the Poblado de Balàfia. The Poblado de Balàfia is designated as a Bien de Interés Cultural and as a Conjunto Histórico de Balears. It consists of seven traditional houses and two defensive towers and is considered an exceptional example of Ibiza’s rural architecture. Here, you will therefore encounter a clearly defined ensemble in which traditional construction is combined with the defensive features of the two towers.

Culture

Another defining building is the Església de Sant Llorenç de Balàfia. It was built on a hill in the 18th century. Its floor plan has the shape of a Latin cross; the church also has side chapels and a barrel vault. The architectural design can also be seen on the exterior: it has a solid appearance, while the entrance porch is defined by a single round arch. A square tower with exposed masonry is attached to the northern side.

Paths and rural surroundings

Visitors can walk along the paths of the Poblado de Balàfia. The houses are privately owned and are not open to the public. Access to the paths and views of the traditional settlement therefore offer a different experience from visiting the interiors.

The Route de Balàfia is 2.7 km long and takes around 30 minutes. It connects the village church with the Font de Balàfia and passes through Can Pere Mosson, its spring and an old lime kiln. Can Pere Mosson is a public property with a popular picnic area. The route, spring and lime kiln are the individual named stops along this trail.

Geographical location

The Mirador Cala Blanca viewpoint is located in the vicinity of San Lorenzo de Balafia. The Acueducto púnico romano Sargamassa Museum is also in the surrounding area. The beaches in the vicinity of San Lorenzo de Balafia include Platja de Benirras, Platja de Xarraca, Platja de Santa Eualia and Platja de Castello.

The Museu Casa Broner is also located in the same area. Another named viewpoint there is the Mirador de la Muralla Dalt Vila. The surroundings of San Lorenzo de Balafia therefore include viewpoints and museums as well as several beaches, while the local architectural monuments and the Route de Balàfia form a separate cultural and rural focus.
