Discover Sardalla: Holiday Apartment Between Culture and Hiking Trails

The Palacio de la Piconera, associated with Sardalla, dates back to the 19th century and is an architectural ensemble from the late 19th century. It was built in 1891 by Manuel Martínez for agricultural and livestock farming purposes. The ensemble comprises a rectangular floor plan, five flush-fitted balconies, a lookout structure made of iron and glass, several servants’ houses and a remarkable fountain.

Culture

Sardalla celebrates traditional festivals in honour of Saint Michael. At the Fiesta de San Miguel, religious events are combined with the subasta del ramu; the celebrations include traditional cuisine, music, a Romería and a Verbena.

Hiking Trails and Landscapes

On the way back to Cueves, the Circuito de Monte Moru passes La Piconera. In the immediate surroundings of Sardalla, there is also the signposted, easy 6.3-kilometre circular hike Miradores de Ardines, which runs via Sebreñu and the La Moría recreational area to three viewpoints.

The Paseo por la Mediana is a 13.5-kilometre circular trail of low difficulty and, after crossing El Toral, leads in the direction of Sardalla. The different trail lengths and difficulty levels allow the two circular routes to be compared directly.

The Circuito de los Caleros is a hiking trail around the Macizo de Ardines, where traditional lime kilns can be visited. In the Cerro Milán area, between Sardalla and Ardines, there is a lime kiln dug into the ground.

The rural settlement of Ardines lies in the immediate surroundings of Sardalla, between Sebreñu and Sardalla. Ardines is considered an example of local architecture amid green meadows and low hills offering views over Ribadesella.

Orientation on Site

A tourist information board is located at a central point in the village. A spring is situated on the local road between San Miguel de Ucio and Sardalla. According to local tradition, the Sardalla spring is said to have been a meeting place for lovers.

The Ruta del Agua can be completed on foot; because of its considerable length and the fact that it runs mostly along roads, a combination of walking and driving is recommended.
