Ardines – Caves, Rock Art and Mountain Landscapes
Ardines can be discovered through its caves, rock art and the viewpoints of the massif. The Cueva de La Lloseta and the Cueva de Tito Bustillo are located in the Ardines massif. In the La Moría-Ardines recreation area, three miradores offer panoramic views of the coast, the Sella River and the green surrounding landscape.
Culture
The main chamber of the Cuevona de Ardines has a ceiling up to 40 metres high. A natural opening allows daylight to enter. Access to the Cuevona is via a staircase with 300 steps, and the visit lasts an average of 45 minutes. On 27 August 2026, the Cuevona de Ardines was closed until further notice.
The Cueva de La Lloseta is a cave in the Ardines massif and is classified as a Bien de Interés Cultural (Asset of Cultural Interest). A human cranial vault found there was assigned through analyses to the end of the Upper Palaeolithic.
The Cueva de Tito Bustillo lies in the Ardines massif, in a karst complex near the mouth of the Sella. The Centro de Arte Rupestre Tito Bustillo provides an exhibition setting where the Camarín de las Vulvas, the Galería de los Caballos, the Antropomorfo and the Panel de los Policromos can be viewed. The permanent exhibition provides information about the discovery of the cave, its geological value, its former inhabitants and the surviving rock art.
Landscape
La Moría-Ardines is a recreation area in the Ardines mountain region in Ribadesella. It lies on a plateau-like elevation in a distinctive geological landscape. The Miradores de Ardines are three viewpoints in the Ardines massif and part of the La Moría recreation area. From there, panoramic views extend over the coast, the Sella River and the green surrounding landscape.
The three viewpoints and the caves represent clearly distinguishable themes: on the one hand, there are the underground spaces, rock art and the exhibition; on the other, the plateau-like elevation, the coast, the Sella and the green landscape. Those exploring Ardines can therefore choose between underground spaces with rock art and an elevation with panoramic views.
The choice between the two focuses changes the character of the visit: underground spaces direct attention to rock art, geology and former inhabitants, while the miradores lead the gaze across the coast, the Sella and the landscape. The route through Ardines and along the Avenida de la Cueva de Tito Bustillo adds a path between the village and the town centre to these contrasts.

Routes
On the return journey, the Miradores de Ardines route leads through the village of Ardines and then back to the centre of Ribadesella via the Avenida de la Cueva de Tito Bustillo. The Cueva del Tenis is located high up on the Ardines massif and can be accessed from the Miradores de Ardines.
