Osera de Ebro: Culture, Nature and Holiday Apartments

The remains of the Castillo de los Cornel stand in Osera de Ebro’s Plaza Mayor. The consolidated site serves as a park with views of the nearby Río Ebro. The Castillo is one of the castles in Aragón classified as a Bien de Interés Cultural.

Culture

The Iglesia de Santa Engracia was built in the 16th century, around 1575, as a single-nave Mudéjar church without galleries. It is classified as a Bien Catalogado del Patrimonio Cultural Aragonés; its tower is decorated with two-colour ceramic elements in white and green.

The La Corona archaeological zone is located in the municipalities of Fuentes de Ebro and Osera de Ebro in Zaragoza. La Corona is considered a settlement from the Republican period that was destroyed by a severe fire and abandoned in the second half of the 1st century BC. As a Bien de Interés Cultural, it is classified in the category Conjunto de Interés Cultural and as an archaeological zone.

Osera de Ebro celebrates a patron saint’s festival in honour of Santa Engracia in April. A patron saint’s festival in honour of San Martín follows in November.

Nature

Part of the municipality of Osera de Ebro lies within the Reserva Natural Dirigida de los Sotos y Galachos del Ebro. The Reserva Natural Dirigida de los Sotos y Galachos del Ebro also includes Osera. In winter, Northern shovelers, Gadwalls, Eurasian wigeons and Eurasian teals find refuge in the quieter sections of the river and the galachos of the Reserva Natural Dirigida de los Sotos y Galachos del Ebro. Purple herons are among the species that breed in the Reserva Natural Dirigida de los Sotos y Galachos del Ebro. White storks are present in Osera all year round, including at the church and on electricity pylons. The aquatic ecosystem of the Reserva Natural Dirigida de los Sotos y Galachos del Ebro provides shelter and food for a great variety of waterbirds.

Routes

The Ruta Senderista Barrancos y Trincheras de Osera hiking route begins at Plaza España in Osera de Ebro. It is 17 kilometres long and has a maximum positive elevation gain of 200 metres. Numerous trenches and refuge caves from the Spanish Civil War lie along the route. The route is technically classified as difficult.

The Osera «Barranco San Julián» mountain biking route is moderately difficult, leads to Osera’s landing stage on the Ebro and includes approximately five kilometres of trail through the ravine. Another route starts at Plaza España in Villafranca de Ebro, passes through Osera de Ebro and continues to the small village of Aguilar.
