Albeta combines a 16th-century church with Roman baths and distinctive local traditions. The single-nave Iglesia parroquial de Santiago Apóstol has a semicircular apse and star-ribbed vaults. The Roman baths of Albeta were built between the 1st and 2nd centuries AD and served the inhabitants of an adjoining villa.

Culture and History

Local culture includes the Dance de Albeta, featuring the distinctive figure of the Chamarluco. Texts dating from 1860 have survived; the associated sheet music has also been transcribed. Historically, since its revival in 2000, the Dance de Albeta has been performed continuously on the first Sunday in October.

The Centro de Interpretación «Valle del Huecha» displays everyday objects and agricultural tools from the Huecha Valley. At the same time, it presents the valley through the symbolic elements of water, fire, air and earth. Visits are arranged by telephone appointment at 976 852 430.

The Pilar de la Verónica stands on the historic route between Borja and Albeta and is one of two 16th-century pillars. At these places, people prayed for rain during rogation processions.

Nature and Townscape

The Fuente del Ojo spring is located at the western end of Albeta Park. It produces sulphate-rich sodium-magnesium water.

The group of wineries in Albeta comprises an estimated 30 wine cellars. They are located mainly in several areas to the north and west of the town; some are also situated on its southeastern edge.

The PR-Z GB 180 hiking trail connects Magallón, Alberite, Bureta, Albeta and Ainzón. Festivals and Traditions

In the Pesaje de los Niños tradition, children born during the previous year are weighed; in return, a quantity of grain equivalent to their weight is given.

During the Hogueras de San Antón, bonfires are lit at various locations in Albeta on the evening of the 16th.

As part of the San Antón festival, a procession takes place on the following Sunday; roscones are carried along to be blessed during Mass.
