Hiking and Landscapes

The Barrosa Route follows the river through a pine forest and then opens onto alpine grassland; the Circo de Barrosa lies in the background. It leads to the ruins of the Minas de Parzán.

The round trip from the Hospital de Parzán to the Circo de Barrosa is 9 km long and has an elevation gain of 350 m. The car park for the family route into the Valle de Barrosa is located by the former Hospital de Parzán, beyond the old customs station on the road to France.

From Parzán, a track and a section of the GR-11 trail climb uphill for 11 km through the Barranco de Urdiceto. The different route lengths and landscapes can be used as different points of comparison when planning the day. Alpine Landscapes

Lago de Urdiceto is a former mountain lake that is now dammed, and lies below Fuesa and Suelsa. Next to Lago de Urdiceto is a group of small mountain lakes, the Ibones de la Solana de Urdiceto, with views of Posets.

Traces of Mining

The PR-HU 189 is signposted as a PR trail with white-and-yellow markings. It runs along the service road by the canal and passes old mining remains, barracks and other structures.

The Minas de Parzán complex includes, among other facilities, the Luisa aerial cableway system and a power station. In the 20th century, the Société des Mines de Parzán had its headquarters in the Hospital de Parzán.

The materials extracted from the mines of Parzán, especially iron and silver, were transported to France by a cableway with ore carts over the Puerto de Salcorz.

History and Culture

Parzán was almost completely destroyed during the Civil War; nearly all the buildings in the village, including the church, burned down.

The Museo de Bielsa is located inside the Renaissance town hall of Bielsa. Its extensive collection includes documents and photographs from different periods; it also contains a section about La Bolsa de Bielsa.

The patron saint festivities in Parzán take place on 10 August, the feast day of Saint Lawrence (San Lorenzo). Parzán is home to the municipality's only petrol station.
