Buesa in Aragón: GR 15, Churches and Forest Landscape

The Fanlo–Buesa–Broto stage of the GR 15 is classified by the Government of Aragón as a “Sendero Turístico de Aragón” (Tourist Trail of Aragón). In the direction of Buesa and Broto, the GR 15 connects the Vió/Ballibió Valley with the Broto Valley. The old path runs along the right bank of the Barranco Chate; to the south, it crosses the slopes of the Sierra, crowned by Punta Trallata or Pueyo Ballarín.

Trails

The descent from Buesa to Broto follows a traditional footpath that crosses the road in sections. For your own planning, the different types of paths and time estimates can be compared separately. Thus, the connecting path between the valleys stands alongside the shorter access routes to individual destinations around Buesa. The routes should each be considered separately, as the traditional descent and the uphill access to the Ermita contain different distance details.

Culture and History

The Ermita de Nuestra Señora de Bun is a small rectangular building made of partially plastered sandstone masonry. It stands in an area with scattered bordas.

Near Buesa, the GR 15 leads to the Bordas de San Esteban, a former settlement site. Another historic stop along the way is the Fuente Baño, a spring with healing properties that was once very well known and heavily visited.

The footpath to the Ermita de Nuestra Señora de Bun begins at the end of the Barrio de la Iglesia and takes about an hour; it involves a steep ascent.

The church in Buesa preserves a Romanesque Chrismon and folk paintings inside. On 2 July, a pilgrimage takes place to the Ermita de Nuestra Señora de Bun, attended by the residents of Buesa and Sarvisé.

The cultural attractions therefore differ in their form: the church features the Romanesque Chrismon and folk paintings, while the Ermita appears as a small building made of sandstone masonry. The Bordas de San Esteban represent a former settlement site, and the Fuente Baño preserves the memory of its former renown and high visitor numbers.

Nature

The GR 15 passes through wooded areas with beech trees, various deciduous trees, firs, holly, pine trees and oaks. The route connects the aforementioned valleys with wooded slopes and the course of the Barranco Chate.

The Barranco El Chate is a fluvial attraction in the municipality of Broto. From the road, the car is parked in a widening near the “El Chate” holiday center; a branch then leads down to the river on the right.

The natural pool on the Chate River lies hidden between meadows and forests and can be reached by an easy bike ride.
