Asín de Broto – Hiking Trails, Church and Chapels

PR-HU 118 leads through Asín de Broto and climbs there from Fiscal via a bridleway and hiking trail through an oak forest. A branch of PR-HU 118 leads to the Ermita de San Mamés, which dates from the 17th century.

Two Romerías are documented at the Ermita de San Mamés: one on 4 May, which has been moved to the nearest Sunday for several years and is associated with the blessing of the fields, and another on 17 August, the feast day of Saint Mamés.

Culture

The Esconjuradero of Asín de Broto has a rectangular floor plan and is open on three of its four sides. It serves as a passageway to the Church of San Bartolomé.

The Ermita de San Pedro is a Romanesque chapel that was incorporated into a house built later, in the 17th or 18th century. It is simple in design, has a rectangular floor plan and a semicircular apse facing east. At the Ermita de San Pedro, Romanesque forms are combined with later structural integration.

The Casa Molinera is an L-shaped complex consisting of a dwelling and a borda, with a courtyard paved with stone slabs. Different architectural forms, uses and periods coexist in Asín de Broto; the Romanesque chapel and the house from the 17th or 18th century create a clear temporal contrast.

A distinctive natural feature is the Roble de Asín: on 26 November 2021, the Government of Aragon declared it an “Árbol Singular”.

The summit of Punta Fobions is located in the immediate vicinity of Asín de Broto. The summit of Punta Corona is also in the immediate vicinity. Punta Berroy is likewise nearby, as is the summit of Suerio. The various summits and the designated tree offer different focal points for exploring the surrounding area.
