San Juan de Aznalfarache reveals its unusual landscape through the Ruta Verde. It offers paths that allow you to approach and experience this landscape. At the same time, archaeological traces, historical memories and various sites in the surrounding area come together here. Visits to the Centro de Interpretación del Patrimonio Arqueológico require an appointment in advance. San Juan de Aznalfarache can be reached by metro, bus or via the Corredor Verde Metropolitano.
Nature and paths
In Parque Valparaíso, paths lead through the landscape. Visitors can take in the flora and the privileged views of the surrounding area. The park thus combines the course of the path with views of the surrounding landscape and explicitly makes both elements part of the visit. The Ruta Verde provides a separate access route: Its paths lead towards the unusual landscape of San Juan de Aznalfarache without requiring a specific viewpoint or a single attraction.
Parque de las Baterías is a peri-urban park. Its name derives from the former anti-aircraft batteries that were installed there during the Spanish Civil War. The batteries therefore belong to the former history of the area and should not be understood as a current feature of the park. A historical connection also remains visible at the Paseo Fluvial: The former section of the mining railway viaduct and the landing stage there recall the connection to Casa Minas de Cala.
The island of Isla de la Cartuja is also located near San Juan de Aznalfarache. Thus, the landscape orientation extends beyond the immediate paths and parks into the surrounding area, without equating the different geographical references.
Culture and history
Freely accessible remains of an Almohad-style fortress have been preserved in San Juan de Aznalfarache. The Centro de Interpretación del Patrimonio Arqueológico displays archaeological remains from the Turdetanian period, including remains from the 3rd century BC, as well as from the Roman and Muslim eras. Audiovisual information supplements the presentation and serves to explain the archaeological site for educational purposes. A prior appointment is required to visit this centre.
Surrounding area
Centro Cerámica Triana and Museo Del Castillo De San Jorge, each a museum, are located in the immediate vicinity of San Juan de Aznalfarache. Valparaíso Park and Cavaleri, both parks, are also nearby. In addition, there are Palacio de San Telmo, a palace, Museo de Arte y Costumbres Populares, a museum, and Jardín Botánico el Arboreto, a garden. The destinations mentioned therefore have different names and classifications: museums, parks, a palace and a garden stand alongside one another without being combined into a single attraction.
