The GR-7 trail between Serrato and Ardales is officially recognised as a long-distance hiking trail and marked with white and red trail signs. The landscape along the GR-7 between Serrato and Ardales includes cereal and olive cultivation, pine forest, as well as the valley and banks of the Río Turón.

Landscape

Almorchón, also known as Cerro de las Peleas, lies south of Serrato, is 986 metres high and surrounded by old holm oaks and pine forests. The Sierra de la Cueva is shared by the municipalities of Serrato and Cuevas del Becerro. It consists of limestone covered by scrubland and pasture with individual holm oaks. Different types of landscape therefore stand side by side: cultivated areas, forest, pasture and the rocky Sierra.

Water and springs

Fuente de Cañamero is located at the entrance to the town centre of Serrato and has three cascaded basins made from stones from the surrounding area. Fuente del Caño is also part of the townscape: its excess water is channelled into the Abrevadero de la Fuente del Caño at the entrance to Serrato. In the past, Fuente del Caño supplied the residents of the municipality of Serrato with water.

The Cañamero aquifer is located in the immediate vicinity of Serrato and contributes to the formation of the Guadalteba River and the Barranco stream. During the rainy season, springs and waterfalls can form in the immediate vicinity of Serrato at the Cañamero aquifer.

Culture and history

A specific connection between Serrato and the Museo de Málaga can be seen in the work “Cabeza de Baco en bronce”: it comes from the Cortijo de los Villares in Serrato. Grapes and leaves appear as Bacchic attributes of the figure depicted. The town’s living heritage also includes Día de la vieja, a tradition of Andalusia’s intangible cultural heritage.

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Rosario was built in the 16th century after the Christian reconquest of the settlements in the Serranía. The church was most recently renovated in 2009. Serrato’s tourist information office is located in the town hall.

Traditional crafts associated with Serrato include esparto work and basket weaving. The local cuisine is also associated with its own names. The local dishes of Serrato include Tortilla de espárragos, Olla de tagarninas and Sopa hervida. Sweet specialities include Roscos de vino, Roscos de naranja, Tortas de azúcar y almendra and filled empanadillas.

The included services, individual price components, and the booking and cancellation conditions are equally relevant. Take your time to review the offers and compare these points before deciding.
