Nature

Otívar displays its distinctive landscape character in the Sierra de Cázulas. The original woodland area within the municipality of Otívar forms, together with La Almijara, a morphotectonic unit with distinctive landscape, morphological, botanical and faunal features. At the confluence of the Nacimiento and Verde rivers, limestone cliffs create a striking morphological expression of the landscape.

A route to the Cascada de los Árboles Petrificados leads down through the mid-mountain range of the Sierra de Almijara to karst streams and gorges at the source of the Río Verde. Access to the Río Verde for canyoning requires specialised personnel and prior authorisation from the Junta de Andalucía.
