History

La Cala de Mijas is home to the Torre de la Batería de Cala del Moral, a historic structure built in 1773. The Mijas Town Council restored the tower and adapted it for museum use. It is listed as a “Bien de Interés Cultural” (B.I.C.).

Coast

At Playa de La Cala–Torreón beach, supervised bathing is supported by a 156 m² shade canopy staffed by three specialised lifeguards. Sun loungers, a pair of crutches, a lifting hoist and three amphibious chairs are also available: two for adults and one for children. Playa La Cala is easily accessible on foot, by car and by bus. At the water, access, supervised bathing and the aforementioned aids can be considered as separate points in the day's planning.

Paths and Nature

Near La Cala, the Senda Litoral is a walking and cycling route. It passes Mediterranean dunes and coastal sandy areas that are home to protected plant and animal species. The Senda Litoral also leads to coastal areas along the coast of Mijas that are used for leisure activities and water sports. Those who consider the route, coastal landscape and water sports as distinct focal points can weigh this information separately for their own planning.

Markets

A market for organic products takes place on Bulevar de La Cala de Mijas on the second and last Sunday of every month. In La Cala de Mijas, there is a street market on Wednesday mornings at the Recinto Ferial, approximately from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The monthly and weekly schedules clearly distinguish the two market dates from each other.

Festivals

The programme of the Feria de La Cala de Mijas includes concerts, a daytime fair and children's activities. The local festivities in La Cala take place at the end of July. Día del Carmen is celebrated in La Cala on 16 July with a procession. Fixed calendar dates, recurring market times and the Feria programme provide different temporal reference points for your own planning.
