The current section of the Senda Litoral Mijas runs between La Cala de Mijas and Calahonda; it is part of the Senda Litoral de Málaga project.
For comparison with other local area pages, you can also visit El Faro, La Cala De Mijas and Campo Mijas.
Nature
Many sections of the Senda Litoral Mijas run along boardwalks parallel to the Mediterranean. At certain points along the Senda Litoral Mijas, information boards provide details about the area’s natural features and the animal and plant species that inhabit it.
The Sendero Arroyo Los Alamos offers a one-kilometre walk running upstream alongside the stream. The path is suitable for observing birds and butterflies. This short route along the stream provides a distinct experience alongside the coastal sections of the Senda Litoral Mijas.
Despite its location in a heavily urbanised area, the Arroyo Los Álamos preserves an ecosystem with great biological diversity. A nature trail leads from Parque Calahonda to Avenida de los Jardines; information signs provide details about the local flora and fauna.
Parque España has a children’s playground, an area for outdoor exercise and spacious areas for walking. The nature trail, coastal path and park areas represent different focal points within the local area.
The natural attractions offer different experiences: the coastal path, stream, nature trail and park represent various ways of enjoying the outdoors, while observation and information provide distinct ways to engage with the surroundings. These themes can be considered separately when planning the day; a walk, nature observation or free time in the park does not have to be combined with the longer coastal sections. This keeps the options clear and flexible.
Leisure
Club de Golf La Siesta is a nine-hole, par-3 course in the heart of Sitio de Calahonda. The club was founded in 1989.
Bus route M-119 is a circular route with several stops within the urbanisation and connects Calahonda with Fuengirola and La Cala de Mijas.
Playa Calahonda - Riviera is easily accessible on foot, by car and by bus. This means that three expressly mentioned ways of reaching the beach are available.
A holiday apartment in Sitio de Calahonda can be assessed in the listing details according to travel dates, apartment or room category and cancellation conditions. These details complement the area’s features: coastal paths, nature observation, the beach, bus connections and culture form different areas of interest for personal travel planning.
Culture
The present-day Iglesia de San Miguel was consecrated as a church on 25 May 2003. In connection with the Iglesia de San Miguel, a Romería was organised from one locality to another.
The Torre de Calahonda was completed in 1575. The Ermita de Calahonda offers a view of the Mediterranean.
At the Ermita de Calahonda, the starry sky attracts some residents on moonless nights, particularly in summer.
