Culture

The sectoral area of the Lugares Colombinos is designated as an Asset of Cultural Interest with the typology of a historic site and includes San Juan del Puerto. The BIC boundaries of the Lugares Colombinos encompass the marshland south of the town centre. This corresponds to the historic port of the 15th and 16th centuries and the natural bay that sheltered it.

The Iglesia Parroquial de San Juan Bautista is a late-Mudéjar church dating from 1500; later extensions and alterations were carried out in the Baroque style. The Convento del Carmen was founded in 1529 by Juana Lucero. Underground structural elements and remains of the Baroque convent church have been preserved.

The Archivo Jesús Quintero covers 2,000 square metres and contains more than 10,000 hours of radio and television material, 5,000 interviews and a library with more than 700 books. The Fiestas Falleras de San José are a local cultural tradition featuring cultural, religious, musical and gastronomic events; the 2026 edition will take place from 19 to 22 March.

Every year on 12 October, a day of encounters with cultural and sporting events is held at the Muelle to celebrate the Columbian event.

Nature

The Área Natural y Recreativa Salinas y Muelle del Tinto is located in the Tinto estuary, in a habitat of this type that is rare in Andalusia. Around the Área Natural y Recreativa Salinas y Muelle del Tinto, visitors can view the Neo-Mudéjar railway station on the Seville–Huelva line.

The Salinas del Tinto hiking trail is a 1.9-kilometre circular route of low difficulty and features rest areas as well as sections suitable for people with reduced mobility.

Routes

The Sendero del Muro y Compuertas is a 3.5-kilometre circular route of low difficulty. It crosses a bridge over the first of three sluice gates in the flood protection wall. It is also signposted and equipped with information panels on cultural heritage, fauna, flora and local geology.

The Puerta Verde San Juan-Niebla runs through the area of the Arroyo Candón in the municipality of San Juan del Puerto; there, the route passes through a gallery forest and by a historic Roman bridge. Following an old drovers’ road, it runs mostly parallel to the river through a remarkable natural landscape.

The Vía Verde Los Molinos de Agua begins in San Juan del Puerto and ends in Valverde del Camino via Trigueros and Beas. It is a 36-kilometre, linear, paved route of low difficulty.
