The municipal Chorrillo route is 5 km long, climbs 1,121 m and reaches an altitude of 2,688 m. It reaches the Mirador de Trevélez viewpoint at an altitude of 2,650 m. The official Ruta del río Trevélez runs from Plaza baja de Trevélez to Barrio medio de Trevélez and is 8,980 m long; it is considered not particularly difficult and presents a low level of risk.

Further trails

The Sulayr (GR-240) branches off to the left 80 m beyond the bridge over the Río Trevélez. The Siete Lagunas route begins at Callejón de la Era de Juan Pérez, slightly above Trevélez Town Hall. The municipal route to Laguna de Vacares mentions the Refugio Horcajo at an altitude of 2,215 m. The Horcajo route passes an extremely old weir that was used to measure the amount of water.

Culture and townscape

The footpath to Molino Altero leads down to the ruins of Molino Altero. The path to Molino Altero passes through El Cerrillo, a viewpoint overlooking the river. The Los tres barrios circular route runs along Calle Real past traditional Tinaos and Corralones and ends at Era del Fuerte, a viewpoint overlooking the valley and Trevélez.

The Romería al Mulhacén de la Virgen de las Nieves has taken place every year in Trevélez since 1912. The ascent during the pilgrimage of the Virgen de las Nieves is made on foot; the statue of the Virgin is carried on the backs of pack animals. The patron saint festivities of San Antonio include a performance of Moros y Cristianos, which is rooted in a deeply established popular tradition. In the Chorrillo area, there are trenches, bunkers and ammunition remains from the Spanish Civil War. Trevélez has an 18th-century church with valuable works of art.

Nature

The recreational area on the Río Trevélez is located next to the bridge of the Órgiva-Laujar regional road and includes natural river pools. At Fuente Agrilla, there is a freshwater spring and an iron-rich spring.

Jamón de Trevélez is naturally dried and cured using traditional methods. Local routes

The Ruta de los Tres Cerditos leads to thatched, wooden and brick houses distributed across Trevélez's three districts. It includes animals, fountains, washhouses and Tinaos and is considered a family-friendly route.
