Discover Ubrique: Leather Culture, History and Trails

Ubrique brings its leather-making tradition to life at the Manos y Magia en la Piel Museum. On display are machines, tools and leather goods made in Ubrique throughout its history. In Ubrique’s historic centre, the CIHU San Juan de Letrán is housed in a church built in the 17th century. Using paintings, photographs, remains and specific documentation, the CIHU gives visitors an overview of Ubrique’s cultural heritage.

San Juan de Letrán has an unusual octagonal floor plan and is described as a particularly unique example of Neoclassical architecture, with no parallels in the surrounding area.

Since 2008, the Crujía de gamones has been recognised as a Fiesta of Tourist Interest of Andalusia. As a tradition held annually in May in Ubrique, decorated neighbourhoods light bonfires and make gamones explode.

Trails and Formats

The Sendero Calzada Romana de Ubrique is a 3.4-kilometre walking trail taking one hour and rated as low difficulty. It runs from Benaocaz to Ubrique along a well-preserved Roman road.
