Holiday apartment in Zgornja Polskava – Easy Trails and Manor History

The Polskavska Mountain Trail runs through the Slovenjebistriško Pohorje and consists of several interconnected trails. It leads to the destinations of Trije Kralji and Areh; all trails are classified as easy. The traditional hikes take place every year in March from Zgornja Polskava towards Trije Kralji and in November from Zgornja Polskava towards Areh.

History

As early as the 12th century, a manor belonging to the Polskava knights of the Maribor family stood on the site of Zgornja Polskava. The original manor of Zgornja Polskava was completely burned down by Ottoman troops in 1532. The manor was renovated in the Baroque style from 1744 to 1756 according to plans by the architect Jožef Hoffer.

Culture

The Church of the Holy Trinity in Zgornja Polskava has a bell tower standing in front of the western wall of the nave. The nave is rectangular, the two chapels are of equal height and square, while the lower chancel has a semicircular end. Another Church of the Holy Trinity is located in Levarje. It was built between 1616 and 1636, consecrated in 1696, and remodeled in 1782. The high altar and pulpit of the Church of the Holy Trinity are works by Jožef Holzinger from 1766 and 1769.

Hiking Trails

As an independent circular hike, the Zajčkova Educational Trail complements the trail network. It runs above Zgornja Polskava to the village of Kočno and offers several points of interest for children and adults, as well as beautiful views. The circular trail takes about two hours to complete. Children from around the age of three can walk it independently; parents can carry younger children in carriers or backpacks. The trail is not suitable for strollers.

Cuisine

Miza za štiri serves a changing tasting menu based mainly on vegetables, with occasional seafood and just one meat dish. Wine pairings are also available. The dining concept is intimate and designed for up to 12 guests; each table has its own private area.
