Holiday apartment in Zgornja Ložnica – Church of Saint Wenceslas and hiking trails

Zgornja Ložnica combines a distinctive sacred history with waterside trails and a strong commitment to preserving local traditions. The Church of Saint Wenceslas is the only church in Slovenia dedicated to this saint; it was first mentioned in 1251. Culture

The Church of Saint Wenceslas consists of a nave, a polygonally enclosed, single-bay presbytery, chapels and a bell tower on the north wall. Its furnishings are also associated with a name: the main altar, the northern altar and the pulpit were made by Jožef Holzinger. Another historical detail can be found in a church in Zgornja Ložnica, where a Celtic tombstone has been built into the western part.

Nature and trails

One trail runs along the Ložnica stream. The interactive hiking trail “With a star on your forehead and a stream beneath your feet” leads from the branch of OŠ Zgornja Ložnica to Jakčev mlin and back. The Stepišnik hiking trail was established by the Zgornja Ložnica Tourist Association. Its creation was intended to revive the local cultural heritage and promote sustainable tourism through cultural heritage.

Traditions

The Ložniške ufarce preserve and revive folk customs, traditions and farming activities such as sheep shearing and harvesting through staged performances; they use the local dialect in the process. Their performances illustrate the customs with original objects and folk songs. In addition, ethnological evenings have been held for members in the multipurpose hall in Zgornja Ložnica for more than 14 years.

At Pri Janezu in Zgornja Ložnica 4, a dish containing peeled tomatoes, ham, cheese, bacon, peppers and egg is called “Ložniška”.
