Culture

The parish church of St. Lawrence is first mentioned in 1184. The present parish church was built in 1765–1766 as an almost entirely Baroque church. It features rich Baroque furnishings by the Maribor sculptor Jožef Holzinger; its interiors were repainted in 1892.

Among the surviving historic buildings is the Pajštva, a more than 100-year-old Pohorje fruit-drying house where fruit and flax were dried. The present Church of the Holy Cross in Lovrenc na Pohorju is a late Baroque church dating from 1659. Inside, a fragment of a fresco depicting Mary and John the Evangelist has been preserved.

Ladejenkovo is considered the oldest house in Lovrenc and is approximately 500 years old. The building is a farmhouse built entirely of wood in the 15th century. The local heritage also includes the Baroque stone statue of Saint Nicholas, created by Jožef Straub in 1754.

“Žvancanje” is an activity for visiting cultural and historical attractions in Lovrenc. It is organized by the Lovrenc na Pohorju Tourist Association; prior contact is required.

Nature

In the Pohorje, the Lovrenška Lakes are located in a peat bog between Planika at 1,391 m and Mulejev vrh at 1,533 m. The area lies in the headwaters of the Radoljna, Mislinja and Velka streams. Depending on the current amount of water, there are between 11 and 22 small lakes.

The Ruta forest education trail is approximately three kilometers long and leads through the Štiblerjev vrh forest reserve. Thus, in addition to the moorland, the forest and its natural surroundings are also presented as distinct facets of the Pohorje region.
