Lenart V Slov. Goricah brings nature, history and regional traditions together within a compact area. Lake Komarnik is particularly distinctive; it is designated as a natural asset of national importance. Around the lake, there are walking trails with signposts and information boards, as well as special infrastructure for birdwatching. This places the landscape and educational opportunities side by side, without reducing the area to just one aspect.

Nature

Several trails explore the surrounding area in different ways. The Franc's Educational Hiking Trail is a marked, easy educational hiking trail measuring 2.7 kilometres. Along it, visitors can discover plants and animals in the Lake Komarnik protected area. The Agata's Educational Hiking Trail is also marked and easy. It runs in one direction and leads for 3.1 kilometres from Hrastovec via Komarnik to the Black Cross.

The European Educational Trail also passes through Dr. Joze Pucnik's Town Park in Lenart. Along this trail, visitors receive basic information about the member states of the European Union and their flags. Those who prefer to explore the landscape by bicycle will find a more challenging cycling route in the Lenart Cycling Route. Its varied relief shapes the character of the route, which passes through the Municipality of Lenart.

Culture and history

The Old Primary School, a Neoclassical building dating from 1895, stands in the centre of Lenart. However, the history of education goes back further: the first regular school with a full-time teacher was founded in Lenart as early as 1759.

An important historic building is the Church of St. Lenart, which was first mentioned in 1196. Owing to its high-quality architecture and detailed stonework, it is considered the finest example of “Slovenske gorice Gothic”. The church also served a defensive function during the Ottoman raids.

The permanent exhibition “Stalna razstava Slovenske gorice v letu 1848/49” can be viewed at the Center of Slovenske Gorice in Lenart. It explores the activities of the Slovenes between the Mura and Drava rivers in 1848/1849 aimed at standardising the Slovenian language and script. It also examines the beginnings of the movement for an independent Slovenia in 1848/1849.

Orientation

The TIC Slovenske gorice is located in the centre of Lenart, opposite the parish church. Excursions with a local guide are organised there. The TIC also provides information about leisure, accommodation, dining and other tourist offers.

Local specialities

At Kramberger Wines, homemade bread and pastries are baked in a brick oven; slovenskogoriška gibanca is also prepared. Upon request, Kramberger Wines accommodates groups of up to 40 people and prepares cold cuts and tastings. The offer also includes an insight into beekeeping: visitors can see a beehive and taste honey. A honey tasting can be arranged.
