Discover Gočova: holiday apartment amid Roman history and the Rupnik Line

Gočova combines archaeological evidence of the Roman cultural landscape with the fortifications of the Rupnik Line and a route across Gočovski vrh. It is also home to Gočovski Dvorec, whose cuisine draws on local traditions and the flavors of local producers. As a result, the character of the area ranges from prehistoric traces and military structures to culinary experiences.

Culture

The Roman burial mound cemetery at Podgradnom is the largest cemetery in the Gočova settlement area. At the same time, Podgradnom is an important sacred site in the Roman cultural landscape. Two burial mounds on Gočovski vrh have been archaeologically investigated, revealing stone cist graves and Roman pottery.

One of the individual burial mounds is Gočova – Gomila I. This is a single, unidentified burial mound that has been partially excavated at the eastern edge of the forest along the Nadbišec–Gočova road. The grave has a diameter of 15 meters and is 1.1 meters high. Due to its prominent location on the Gočova plateau, it is an important visual landmark in the Roman cultural landscape.

Gočova – Rimska gomila ob cesti Gočova–Nadbišec is likewise a single, unidentified burial mound that has been partially excavated. It lies at the western edge of the forest along the Nadbišec–Gočova road, has a diameter of 13 meters and is 0.8 meters high. This burial mound is also an important visual landmark in the Roman cultural landscape due to its prominent location on the Gočova plateau.

History

Another historical trace is the Rupnik Line in Gočova. It is a fortification system whose construction was begun by the Kingdom of Yugoslavia before the Second World War along the borders to protect against Italian attacks. The fortifications in Gočova include an anti-tank emplacement for a gun and a machine-gun emplacement. Both are connected by a trench; a communication trench leads from the machine-gun emplacement into the hinterland. Several well-preserved structures of the Rupnik Line stand in the forest along the Gočova–Voličina road.

On the way

The Zavrh–Sveta Trojica–Negova route passes over Gočovski vrh to the fire station in Gočova, where it joins the Ptuj–Lenart regional road. Gočova is therefore also a designated section within this connection.

Cuisine
