Žerjavka on Lake Trboje – Holiday Apartment for Nature and Culture
Holiday Apartment in Žerjavka on Lake Trboje
Žerjavka lies on a lake created in 1986 by damming the Sava River. Lake Trboje near Žerjavka covers an area of 1 km² and is up to 17 metres deep. Around Lake Trboje, birdwatching, the footpath to Trboje, canoeing and a regional cycling loop offer different ways to enjoy excursions.
Lakeshore and Birdlife
Lake Trboje near Žerjavka can be accessed from both shores. More than 120 bird species live on and around Lake Trboje. At the same time, numerous bird species, including some rarer ones, breed there. The common merganser (Mergus merganser) can be observed at Lake Trboje all year round. It is therefore possible to look out for the common merganser at Lake Trboje while also keeping an eye on the other bird species in the lakeshore area. Nature observation at Lake Trboje focuses on the water, the shores and the immediate surroundings. At the water's edge, observations close to the shore combine with the canoe trips formerly offered there.
On Foot to Trboje and Further into History
A marked, safe footpath connects Žerjavka with Trboje. Trboje is home to the present-day church with a three-sided choir that recalls a Gothic church. The first mention of the village of Trboje dates from 1351 and is associated with an old Gothic church. The route towards Trboje connects the lake with the village's cultural and historical significance.
Canoeing and Cycling on Lake Trboje
Canoe trips on Lake Trboje were offered from the end of the fire access road below the centre of Trboje. A municipal excursion combined cycling to Lake Trboje/Mavče with canoeing. The two types of excursion link the water with different access points: one via the starting point at the end of the fire access road below the centre of Trboje, and the other via the ride to Lake Trboje/Mavče.
Cycling Loop with a Fixed Start and Finish
The Ljubljana–Preddvor–Jezerski vrh–Šenčur–Ljubljana cycling loop starts and ends in Ljubljana-Tacen and follows less-travelled paved roads. The less-travelled paved roads give the cycling tour a different character from the marked footpath to Trboje. For cyclists, the fixed starting and finishing point in Ljubljana-Tacen provides a clear spatial structure for the tour.
Weekend Bus Connection
A bus route connects Šenčur, Voklo, Trboje, Žerjavka, Prebačevo and Kranj at weekends as well. The bus route and the cycling loop differ in their structure: the bus connects several places, while the cycling loop starts and ends in Ljubljana-Tacen.
