Hiking and landscape

Iga Vas lies in the southern part of Loška Dolina on the Stari trg–Babno Polje road. The settlement is a larger, more recent ribbon village on an insignificant rise. Near Iga Vas, the Obrh occasionally floods meadows. Next to the Obrh are wet, frequently flooded meadows, while the fields are located on higher ground.

This landscape includes several named natural and geographical features. Križna Jama is a cave in the vicinity of Iga Vas. Leskov Vrh is a mountain in the immediate surroundings. Županšček and Bička Gora are mountains in the area around Iga Vas. In the wider regional area lies Hošperk Castle as a ruin. The various references therefore extend from the immediate surroundings through the nearby area to the wider regional area.

Culture and history

Gostilna Magušar and the house at Iga vas 22 are listed as architectural cultural heritage. The inn was a long-established carter’s inn in Iga Vas and is now known by the name “Pri Magušarju”. A stone portal above its entrance also preserves a specific historical reference: it identifies Gregor Mlakar as the owner of the inn in the 19th century. The inscription reads “GM 1842”.

With these two names – Gostilna Magušar and Pri Magušarju – both its former function as a carter’s inn and its current name are represented in the village landscape. The house at Iga vas 22 adds to this architectural reference as a separately listed element of the cultural heritage.

Circular hike in Loška Dolina

One extensively described hiking route is the “Pohod po Loški dolini”. It runs mostly along the “Pot dediščine Loške doline” and follows its yellow-and-green markings. A shorter 11 km variant of the route is also mentioned. This branches off from the longer route before the hamlet of Siga.

For Sunday, 12 October 2025, the “Pohod po Loški dolini” was described as a circular hike along the edge of the Loško polje. The route is considered flat and not very demanding. Thus, this hike retains both the specific route along the edge of the Loško polje and the distinction between the longer route and the 11 km shorter variant.
