Holiday apartment in Malé Hoste: Ramparts, churches and cycling route

At Brišťo in Malé Hoste, archaeological traces, sacred architectural history and a landscape intersect, through which the Livina stream flows and continues towards Pochabany. Archaeological finds from the Great Moravian period of the 9th to 10th centuries AD were discovered at the old Slavic hillfort. The hillfort itself also dates from the 9th to 10th centuries AD; its foundations are hidden beneath the grass. The foundations of a Romanesque church are also located on the hillfort.

Culture and history

The further history of Brišťo is also connected with different historical layers. The wayside chapel of St Vendelin was built approximately in the 18th or 19th century; its surviving remains were reconstructed in 2004–2005. In Pusté, an undated wooden cross stands in a field above the cemetery.

Local life

Wheelwrighting was part of Malé Hoste's historic working life: it was once one of the population's most important occupations. The municipal library of Malé Hoste offers a more everyday way of accessing knowledge. It lends books of various genres to children and adults. Thus, alongside the visible traces of earlier eras, the offerings of present-day local life are also part of the picture, without the history of the village being limited to individual buildings.

Sacred landmarks

Another distinctive building is St Martin's Church, a Baroque church built in 1787. Inside, there is an organ with a five-part case structure by the master Wagner, dating from the mid-19th century. A Renaissance bell from 1651 hangs in the tower. The church thus brings together the construction period, organ and bell from different historical contexts in a single sacred ensemble.

Cycling

Malé Hoste is also located on a signposted circular route called “Duchonka – Zlatníky – Solčianky – Topoľčany”. The route passes through the village and is particularly suitable for MTB and trekking bikes.
