Holiday apartment in Šambron: Siminy, church and folklore

Šambron lies in the northern part of the Levočské vrchy, in the Jakubianska brázda and in the valley of the Šambronka stream. These three geographical references provide a precise location. The regional sequence Ľubovnianske kúpele–Nová Ľubovňa–Jakubany–Kolačkov–Šambron–Chmeľnica–Plaveč also places the village clearly: Šambron lies between Kolačkov and Chmeľnica.

Culture and architecture

The Greek Catholic Church of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos, Chrám Ochrany Presvätej Bohorodičky, in Šambron was built in 1872. It is a historicist building with Neo-Romanesque elements. At the same time, it is a single-nave sacred space with a polygonal presbytery termination. A polygonal tower is incorporated into the building and crowned with a pyramidal roof. The year of construction, denomination and architectural form are among the characteristics of this church building.

Its essential forms include the following: the sacred space is single-nave, the presbytery ends in a polygonal shape, and the incorporated tower is also polygonal. The tower is crowned with a pyramidal roof; the church is a historicist building with Neo-Romanesque elements.

Music and local tradition

Šambron’s cultural character is also reflected in the Šambriňci group. In Šambron, it continues the local folkloric tradition after FSk Skalka ended its activities. The Šambriňci repertoire includes authentic songs from Šambron. The group’s connection to the village is evident not only in its name but also in the songs included in its repertoire.

The Šambriňci have performed at numerous cultural and social events in the nearby and wider surrounding area, as well as abroad. The scope of these performances therefore extends beyond Šambron and includes both the immediate and wider surroundings and destinations abroad. Together with the church, local folklore and sacred architecture are among the cultural facets of the village.
