Holiday apartment in Malý Lipník: EuroVelo 11, nature and history

Near the Polish border, Malý Lipník lies on the northern side of the Ľubovnianska vrchovina mountain range at an elevation of approximately 450 metres. Visitors can hike in the cadastral area of Malý Lipník and its immediate surroundings.

Landscape and trails

Malý Lipník lies directly on the international EuroVelo 11 cycle route, which passes through the cadastral area. A cycle bridge over the Poprad is part of the route; Poland can be reached via footbridges. The waypoints marked along EuroVelo 11 include “Malý Lipník – most” and “Malý Lipník”. Three Class III roads also run through the village: Road 3138 to Plavnica, which continues as far as Legnava, as well as Roads 3141 to Matysová and 3142 to Sulín. These roads therefore lead to several named places, while EuroVelo 11 provides an international connection through the cadastral area.

Culture

The first written mention of Malý Lipník dates back to 1600. A Šoltýs founded the village with settlers from Galicia as a kopaničarska village. It belonged to the Plaveč estate of the Palocsayovsko-Horváthovský family. Its history also includes conflicts over authority and obligations: in 1848, an uprising by the inhabitants of Malý Lipník against the county and feudal obligations was suppressed by the military. In 1887, the Želiare rose up against a forced execution.

Traditional rural production in Malý Lipník included sheep farming, the production of woollen cloth and the extraction of linseed oil. These activities represent a place whose recorded history was shaped not only by dates, but also by specific forms of work. The three areas mentioned complement the political and social history of the village with an aspect of rural production. Another personal connection leads to the painter Eduard Hriňák, who was born in Malý Lipník.

Activities

Hiking is possible in the cadastral area and its immediate surroundings. Malý Lipník has a basic ski lift for skiers. A tourist hostel is located by the village football pitch. Its grounds include tennis courts, a volleyball court, a children's playground, an outdoor seating pavilion and a basic ski lift for skiers. The hostel grounds therefore combine sports facilities with a playground and an outdoor seating pavilion.
