Fričkovce: Holiday Accommodation between Čergov, Ski Resort and History

Fričkovce lies in the Bartošovská Basin at the eastern foothills of the Čergov Mountains. The village combines a long history with churches, a historic cellar and trails leading into the mountains. A ski resort is also located northwest of Fričkovce, at an altitude of 580 to 610 metres above sea level. This means that different facets exist side by side within the same municipality: religious buildings and historic landmarks, winter sports, as well as hiking and cross-country skiing trails.

History and Culture

The earliest written mention of Fričkovce dates back to 1427. The village was established as early as the first half of the 14th century on land owned by the noble Perényi family. A visible reminder of the village's history is the Roman Catholic Church of St Martin. It was built in 1822 to replace an earlier wooden church. It is located on Hlavná Street in the upper part of Fričkovce.

A new church was built in Fričkovce in a modern style with a distinctive tower. It was consecrated by Archbishop Alojz Tkáč on 28 June 1997. The historic cellar in the northern part of the village provides another historical point of interest. The stone, vaulted structure dates from the 17th to the 18th century and has interior dimensions of 22 × 4 metres. The historic cellar is listed among the national cultural monuments.

Winter

The Fričkovce ski resort is located northwest of the village and extends across an altitude of 580 to 610 metres above sea level. It is particularly suitable for beginners and families with children. In addition to daytime operation, the ski resort also offers evening skiing. There is a free parking area at the ski resort, up to 50 metres away.

The Čergov Mountains can also be reached from Fričkovce via several cross-country skiing trails. The routes on Čergov near Fričkovce are also suitable for cycling. Another route into the mountain landscape is the yellow-marked hiking trail to Chata Čergov. The trail is 4.5 kilometres long and takes about one and a half hours on foot.

Mountains and Trails

A 4.5-kilometre educational hiking trail leads from the centre of Fričkovce to the St Florian memorial site in the Čergov Mountains. A memorial site was built in 2001 in the cadastral area of Fričkovce in the Čergov Mountains. It is considered the highest memorial site in Slovakia dedicated to St Florian.

The summit of Mlynská hora is a pilgrimage site. There, worshippers pray the Stations of the Cross. The site where the cross was erected on Mlynská hora offers beautiful views of the surrounding villages. The combination of mountain landscapes, trails and religious memorial sites gives experiences around Fričkovce a distinctive character.
