Culture and History
The Church of Saint Giles, a three-nave Gothic basilica with eleven late Gothic altars, stands in the historic town centre. The historic town centre of Bardejov was declared an urban conservation area in 1950. More than half of Bardejov’s fortifications have survived and are well maintained.
The exhibition “Slobodné kráľovské mesto Bardejov” presents the history of the town from its first written mention in 1241 to the end of the 18th century. The exhibition “Príroda severovýchodného Slovenska a jej ochrana” covers the orographic units of Čergov, Ondavská vrchovina, Pieniny, Busov and Ľubovnianska vrchovina and includes more than 1,700 exhibits from the region’s natural environment.
The Bardejovský jarmok takes place in Bardejov every year. Zborov Castle, also known as Makovica, is a castle ruin above the municipality of Zborov in the Bardejov District. It was built in the 14th century to protect the trade route to Poland.
Zřícenina Zborov is a ruin in the area surrounding the Bardejov District. Muszyna - Ruiny Zamku is a castle in the wider regional surroundings of the Bardejov District, as is Zřícenina Hradu Šariš, a ruin.
Outside the summer season, visits to the Church of Saint Francis of Assisi in Hervartov should be arranged in advance. Organised groups can visit all exhibitions of the Šarišské múzeum Bardejov outside regular opening hours by prior arrangement. The tourist information offices in Bardejov provide free promotional materials about the town.
Bus route 5 runs via Mihaľov, Dlhý rad, Slovenská and Duklianska to Bardejovské Kúpele.
Landscape
The Topľa River drains Bardejov and its surroundings. Dlhá hora, Kopytovka, Jedlovec and Hančov are mountains in the immediate surroundings of the Bardejov District.
At 1,157 metres, Čergovský Minčol is the highest point of the Čergov mountain range.
Nature and Winter
The Lesnícky náučný chodník Čierna mláka is a forest educational trail with 18 thematic stations.
The Regetovka ski centre operates two ski lifts; the slopes are 1.04 km long in total and fully covered by artificial snow. The Regetovka ski centre has 5 km of cross-country ski trails.
