Holiday apartment in Kamenný Most: Archaeology and Protected Nature

In Kamenný Most, archaeological evidence includes a hoard of bronze objects from the Late Bronze Age, as well as settlements and cremation burials from the Bronze Age, the Hallstatt and La Tène periods, the Roman-Barbarian period and the Slavic Great Moravian period. The sites are concentrated mainly on slightly elevated dunes along the left edge of the Hron floodplain.

Culture

The history of the village also includes a rampart in the cadastral territory of Kamenný Most near the Hron. Two lines of ditches flank it; the rampart is referred to as a “spečený val” and probably dates from the Roman period. Another distinctive building is the single-nave Baroque Church of St. Mauricius, built in 1746. Its tower was renovated in 1957, while the interior paintings were created by E. Massányi in 1959.

A separate cultural trace leads to the local folk costume tradition of the “kurtaszoknya”, meaning short skirts, which were already worn in Kamenný Most in the distant past. Kamenný Most, known as Kőhídgyarmat in Hungarian, is described in ethnographic literature as one of the six villages along the lower Hron that are known for their distinctive folk costume as “kurtaszoknyás hatfalu”. Shared features of the folk costume of these six villages include the short skirt and red boots. Together with local organizations, the municipality organizes cultural events every year, including wine tastings.
