Holiday apartment in Branovo: history, landscape and cycling routes

Branovo is home to a historical exhibition called “Dedičstvo našich predkov”, which presents the history of the municipality to the public. It depicts the lives of the ancestors through their way of living, working tools and clothing.

Landscape

A 19-hectare reservoir stocked with fish lies in the northern part of Branovo. The area itself is flat and has little variation in terrain, lying at an elevation of 110 to 190 metres above sea level. The surrounding area is partly forested. Acacia, ash and pine trees predominate; oaks and beech trees also grow in some areas.

History

The history of settlement in the area around Branovo also goes back a long way. Settlement dating from the Neolithic and Copper Age is documented for the Neolithic and Eneolithic periods from 5500–1900 BC. These were followed by the Early Bronze Age from 1900–1500 BC, the Early and Late Iron Ages from 750–0 BC, and the period of the Roman Empire from AD 0–375. Branovo was first mentioned in writing in 1418 under the name Barumlak. The Branovský verbunk, a men’s dance, is part of Branovo’s folk dance tradition.

Culture

Another historic building is St. Anne’s Church in Branovo. It was originally built as a Baroque church in 1739. The building has a single nave, a polygonally enclosed chancel and an integrated tower. Current parish notices and service times are provided for the church.

Gazdovský Dvor Branovo is also part of local life. It was opened to the public in 2012 and sells farm-produced barn eggs, as well as milk and traditionally made dairy products, all year round.

Routes

Branovo is the starting point for two routes of different lengths to Podhájska. The 25-kilometre route leads via Dvory nad Žitavou, Bešeňov, Dolný Ohaj and Radava to Podhájska. A second, 13-kilometre route runs from Branovo via Čechy and the Mariánska Čeľaď manor house, also ending in Podhájska.
