Holiday apartment in Tekovský Hrádok – discover history on the Hron
Tekovský Hrádok lies on the right floodplain of the Hron in the northeastern part of the Danubian Lowland. Its location provides the geographical setting for historical traces and routes along the river.
Culture and history
The remains of the Zemný hrad earthwork castle are located in the western part of today's cemetery in Tekovský Hrádok. Those interested in the settlement history of the area will find several clearly defined periods here: a Neolithic settlement of the Linear Pottery and Lengyel cultures has been archaeologically documented in Tekovský Hrádok. The archaeological finds also include Slavic ramparts from the 9th and 10th centuries. The former settlement of Horný Várad has been documented since 1232 under the name Warad.
Várad is also part of the area's recorded history and is listed in Tekovský Hrádok as a vanished castle. Together with the remains of the earthwork castle and the archaeologically documented settlements, this creates a historical context that is not limited to a single period.
Another defining architectural monument is the Reformed (Calvinist) church of Tekovský Hrádok. It was originally built in 1780 as a Toleration Church and completely rebuilt in 1889. The Calvinist church is in good condition and continues to serve its religious purpose. Its building history thus combines the original construction with a later comprehensive reconstruction and its ongoing religious use.
Landscape
Its location on the right floodplain of the Hron places Tekovský Hrádok in the northeastern part of the Danubian Lowland.
Getting around
South of the built-up area of Tekovský Hrádok, railway line 152 runs between Štúrovo and Levice. There is a railway stop in the cadastral area of Dolný Tekovský Hrádok. Both details form part of the area's geographical and transport structure, without requiring any further distances or connections to be inferred from them.
Water and cycling
In the Hronský Triatlon, the 5 km paddling course is laid out on moderately flowing water and finishes on the right bank near Tekovský Hrádok. The cycling section of this triathlon starts in Tekovský Hrádok and follows a dirt track and a grass-covered embankment along the Hron towards Turá. The paddling and cycling sections therefore refer to the same location in different functions within the competition.
The MERIDIEM 2122 route is 28.2 km long, classified as a moderately difficult SPORT MTB route, and runs over asphalt, surfaced paths, and field and forest tracks. In addition, the planned blue regional cycling route MERIDIEM (No. 2122) is described: it connects Trávnica with Tekovský Hrádok and ends there at the junction with the existing yellow route 8103 “Levice–Bardoňovo”. Cyclists therefore have access both to a specifically classified route with different types of surface and to a planned regional connection relating to the area.
