Tekovské Lužany presents its history through churches, memorial sites and a preserved rural house. Between Baroque ecclesiastical architecture, local Jewish history and an educational trail around the reservoir, a multifaceted picture of the place emerges. Culture and History

The Reformed Christian Church was initially built without a tower in 1784; the tower was added in 1792. Its surroundings are also associated with a historical event: a battle took place mainly in the vicinity of the Reformed Church. A different accent is set by the Baroque statue of the Holy Trinity in the rectory garden of the Roman Catholic Church, which was erected in 1755.

The Church of Saint Stephen the King is a Baroque church built between 1742 and 1745. It is in good condition and continues to be used for religious purposes. Thus, different ecclesiastical landmarks stand side by side in Tekovské Lužany, with construction dates ranging from the 18th century to the later addition to the Reformed Church.

The town’s Jewish history is also present in several locations. The larger Jewish cemetery contains a Holocaust memorial to the Jewish victims of the Second World War from Tekovské Lužany and Tekovské Lužianky. The Museum of the Jewish Religious Community informs visitors about the life, culture and customs of the local Jewish community up to 1944. A visit to the museum can be arranged by telephone.

Tradition and Community

The Folklore House preserves the form of a traditional rural longhouse with a narrow courtyard. The original room layout has also been preserved: it includes a front room, a kitchen, a rear room with a stove, a summer kitchen and a stable. The rooms of the Folklore House currently serve as a community centre for traditional and contemporary cultural and social events. The building therefore represents both traditional forms of housing and living and a present-day use in community life.

Nature

The Tekovské Lužany reservoir is privately owned and is currently used exclusively for fish farming. An educational trail with three information boards runs around the reservoir. They provide information about the reservoir, its fauna and waste. The trail therefore combines a description of the body of water with information about wildlife and environmental issues, without assigning the reservoir itself any other use.

Getting There

Tekovské Lužany can be reached by buses from Levice and Bardoňovo, as well as by passenger trains on the route between Levice and Štúrovo. For planning your stay, both bus connections and the aforementioned railway line are therefore available as specified travel options.
