Krásnohorská Dlhá Lúka combines nature experiences with marked trails, architectural history, a well-preserved rural village character and craft culture. Between an underground watercourse, a viewpoint, a church, a chateau and seasonal events, the character of the village is made up of many specific sites.
Nature
The underground watercourse of Krásnohorská jaskyňa is 520 m long from its spring outlet to Marikino jazero. The cave is listed as a unique natural formation on the World Natural Heritage List. Krásnohorská jaskyňa can be visited as part of guided tours with experienced guides and complete caving equipment. The route from the spring outlet to Marikino jazero and the 34 m-high stalactite column are among the stops on the tour.
The tour leads to Kvapeľ rožňavských jaskyniarov, a 34 m-high stalactite column. The Jaskyne Slovenského krasu educational trail includes five information panels and an introductory panel at Krásna Hôrka Castle.
Hiking
The route to the Horný-vrch plateau ends at the bus stop and car park in Krásnohorská Dlhá Lúka in Rožňava District. It is moderately difficult, thus combining clearly described starting and finishing points with a defined level of difficulty. The moderate rating complements the clearly named endpoints.
A yellow-marked hiking trail passes through Krásnohorská Dlhá Lúka: it begins in Rožňava and ends at the Škridlový košiar signpost on the Silická planina at an elevation of 540 m. From Krásnohorská Dlhá Lúka, the yellow markings lead to this signpost; from there, a green-marked hiking trail runs via the Pod dievčenskou skalou signpost at an elevation of 660 m to the Dievčenská skala viewpoint, which is also at an elevation of 660 m.
History
The Andrássy Chateau in Krásnohorská Dlhá Lúka was built by Count Juraj IV. Andráši as a Neoclassical U-shaped building. A marble memorial plaque on the façade of the former Andrássy Chateau commemorates the fact that Count Dionýz Andráši was born there on 18 November 1835.
The Catholic Church of St. George was originally a Baroque building dating from 1754 and was rebuilt twice in the Neo-Gothic style. Several farmhouses from the late 19th and early 20th centuries have been preserved in Krásnohorská Dlhá Lúka. A chapel was built and consecrated in 1748 to commemorate the apparition of the Virgin Mary before two local girls.
Crafts
Remeselnícky Dom serves as a fully equipped creative workshop and exhibition space for presenting and selling original craft products. During part of the summer, including July and August, bread-baking demonstrations are held there once a week in a historic outdoor oven.
From April to October, an antiques and crafts market is held at Remeselnícky Dom every fourth Sunday. At Dom Remesiel, visitors can view various craft products and learn about traditional crafts under the guidance of experienced master craftspeople.
