In the Jerohuta district of Hnilčík, near the municipal office, the museum exhibition of the Banský skanzen Hnilčík is housed in a former school building. It covers the history of Hnilčík. The Banský skanzen Hnilčík includes four mining trails: A Roztoky, D Údolím Železného potoka, C Grétla and B Bindt.
Culture
The parish church “Farský kostol povýšenia sv. Kríža Kristovho” in Hnilčík was initially built as a wooden church in 1792. The subsidiary church “Kostol Narodenia Panny Márie” in Jerohuta, also known as Dolný Hnilčík, began in 1830 as a wooden bell tower. This church has a main altar with a statue of the Virgin Mary created by the woodcarver František Repčík from Spišská Nová Ves.
Trails
The mining history trail in Hnilčík is self-guided, follows footpaths and is accessible year-round. Routes A and D are linear, while routes B and C are circular. The Roztoky route leads from the Hnilčík, Zajac bus stop through the Ráztoky valley to the Ľudmila adit. The four routes can be combined into a circular route of approximately 22 kilometres with more than 800 metres of elevation gain. The trail layouts show that the educational trail comprises various route patterns: the linear routes are described as connections between a starting point and a destination, while the circular routes form closed loops. These forms meet in the longer combination. Its length and elevation gain characterize this connection as an extensive route, while the individual educational trails retain their own respective alignments.
Hnilčík also offers three hiking loops with a total length of 14 kilometres. The hiking loops lead to a stone settlement, two viewpoints and a small via ferrata on Stangenberg-Hlinisko. The hiking network also includes an interesting and easy cycle path.
OBRI V RAJI is a nature experience park established in a former quarry in Hnilčík.
Winter
The Mraznica ski and recreational sports centre has three ski lifts, a total of 3,000 metres of artificially snow-covered pistes and a longest run of 1,650 metres. Mraznica also has a children's ski area with a conveyor belt, obstacles, a rope tow and ski instructors. The Grajnár cross-country skiing area can be reached on foot from the Mraznica ski and recreational sports centre.
Landscape
The municipal area of Hnilčík is heavily forested and mountainous. The Hnilčík area is part of the Slovenský raj recreational area. Route SR28 on the southern ridge of the Hnilecké vrchy begins in Hnilčík at an elevation of 650 metres and offers panoramic views over the varied landscape of the Spiš region. The geographical details present the location in stages, from the wooded and mountainous municipal area through the Slovenský raj recreational area and the Hnilecké vrchy to the varied landscape of the Spiš region visible from SR28.
