Hrabušice combines historical evidence with the gorge trails of Slovenský raj. In references to the village and trails, architectural history, ruins, the gorge landscape, hiking, cycling and travel connections come together.
Culture
St Lawrence Church in Hrabušice was originally a Romanesque church dating from the mid-13th century. Its Late Gothic winged altar dates from 1516 to 1520 and contains sculptures from the workshop of Master Paul of Levoča. The church was open to the public daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The church therefore combines an early construction phase with a later altar and a clearly stated daily opening period. The time information belongs directly with the practical information about this site.
A castle ruin is located on the summit of Zelená hora in the Slovenský raj area, near Hrabušice. To this day, only heavily damaged foundations and wall remains survive from the castle ruin on the summit.
Nature
Podlesok is a district of Hrabušice and lies at the mouth of the Suchá Belá gorge. At the same time, Podlesok is a suitable starting point for hikes into the gorges of Slovenský raj. A field station and an information centre of the Slovenský raj National Park administration are located there.
In the Suchá Belá gorge, the waterfalls Misové vodopády, Okienkový vodopád, Korytový vodopád, Bočný vodopád and Kaskáda follow one another in this order.
Trails
The SR10 Prielomom Hornádu – west circular route starts and ends in Podlesok at the SAD bus stop and car park. A hiking trail through the Prielom Hornádu leads across seven metal bridges and footbridges, along approximately 320 m of chains on exposed rock faces, with 140 climbing aids and approximately 70 m of wooden footbridges. The information describes the route through its fixed starting and ending points and through the bridges, climbing aids, chains and wooden footbridges present along it. This keeps the trail route and its individual structural elements comprehensible.
Another designated route is the marked cycling route “Hrabušice, Majer – circuit”; it is 4.0 km long.
Getting there
Hrabušice can be reached by train from Žilina and Košice via Vydrník station. The station is 3 km away. The rail connection thus identifies the two departure cities, the station used and the stated distance to Hrabušice in one context.
When planning a holiday apartment stay in Hrabušice, you can choose your preferred focus yourself. Culture, nature, hiking and cycling stand alongside one another as distinct themes; travelling by train can also be included in this personal plan. Your accommodation does not have to follow any predetermined type of trip. You can begin your stay in your mind with a historical destination, put nature at the centre, or choose the marked trails as a theme of their own. What matters is which side of the village you want to discover first and which other places you want to include afterwards.
