Holiday apartment in Betlanovce: Manor house, gorges and the Hornád

Betlanovce is notable for a Renaissance manor house that is the oldest Renaissance manor house in the Spiš region. It was built between 1564 and 1568 and is known by local residents as “Korunky” because of its Renaissance gable attica. The village’s historic architecture also includes a church documented since the Middle Ages and a late Baroque curia.

Culture

The Church of Saint Cosmas and Saint Damian already stood in Betlanovce in the second half of the 13th century. In 1309, Pope Boniface IX granted it a plenary indulgence; at the same time, it was dedicated to Saint Cosmas and Saint Damian. The church was extensively rebuilt between 1731 and 1781. Betlanovce also has a late Baroque curia dating from the second half of the 18th century.

Nature

Betlanovce lies on the northern boundary, in the buffer zone of Slovak Paradise National Park. The village is also located in the Slovenský raj bird protection area, designated by Decree No. 3/2011 Coll. of the Slovak Ministry of the Environment. The village’s landscape context therefore extends from the national park’s buffer zone to the designated bird protection area.

Activities

Tourists use Betlanovce as a starting point for the Suchá Belá, Piecky, Veľký Sokol and Kláštorná roklina gorges. The Prielom Hornádu educational trail in the vicinity of Betlanovce is open year-round. It is 22 km long and includes 16 stops with 20 information panels.

In the vicinity of Betlanovce, the Prielom Hornádu gorge can be navigated during the summer hiking season, under favourable conditions and with sufficient water, using a one- or two-person kayak, canoe, inflatable boat or paddleboard. The launch site for navigating the Hornád is located directly behind the turn-off to Betlanovce, immediately before a bridge; short-term parking is available there.
