A place between basins and mountains

Zákamenné lies in the Podbeskydská brázda and the Zákamenné Basin. This basin was formed by the erosion caused by the Klinianka and Zásihľanka streams. The landscape thus provides the spatial setting for trails, viewpoints and nature experiences that are directly connected with the village.

Culture

A defining place of history and religious tradition is the Calvary of Zákamenné. It was built in 1862 and consists of fourteen Stations of the Cross, a larger central chapel with a horseshoe-shaped floor plan, and two smaller chapels that are also horseshoe-shaped. An indulgence Mass is celebrated at the Calvary every year on 15 August.

The village’s sacred architecture also includes the parish Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, which was built in the Neo-Romanesque style. The heritage room in the Zákamenné municipal office offers another insight into the local past. Historical objects used by the ancestors of local residents are on display there. The exhibition also includes traditional Zákamenné men’s and women’s folk costumes. Another section focuses on flax cultivation, linen production and the production of linseed oil, for which Zákamenné was known.

Landscape and trails

Zákamenné lies in the Horná Orava Protected Landscape Area. A green-marked educational trail leads from the village centre via the local Calvary to the observation tower. The access trail to the Zákamenné observation tower is 3 km long and has an elevation gain of 150 metres.

The wooden observation tower is 15 metres high and offers views of Babia Hora, Pilsko, Oravská Magura and the Western Tatras. A recurring link between summer and winter experiences is the annual winter and summer crossing over Zákamenský grúň, which leads to the summit of Úšust.

Experience nature

Wildlife is also part of the tangible impressions in Zákamenné. Visitors can observe roe deer up close in the game enclosure. The enclosure is home to red deer, fallow deer, roe deer and mouflon. Visitors can also observe trout farming in Zákamenné and catch fresh fish.

It is likewise possible to compare the included services, price components, and booking and cancellation conditions. This keeps the specific features of each offer separate from the landscape and cultural characteristics of the village. On the respective offer page, visitors can also check which type of accommodation is stated and how many people it is listed for. The exact location within Zákamenné, the included services and any possible additional price components are also important. Before booking, visitors can read the stated booking and cancellation conditions as well as the period of validity of the prices. Comparing several holiday apartment offers can reveal different terms without mixing the location information with the features of an individual offer. The specific details stated for each offer remain decisive: they show what is included, which costs are listed separately and under what conditions a change or cancellation is provided for. This keeps the review on the offer page transparent.
