Oravské Veselé: Holiday Apartment, Pilsko and Culture

In Oravské Veselé, mountain landscapes, traditional culture and historic churches come together. Pilsko is the second-highest mountain in the Western Beskids and has a tourist border crossing for pedestrians, cyclists and skiers.

Nature

The slopes of Pilsko are protected as a nature reserve. A green-marked hiking trail leads from Oravské Veselé to Pilsko. It is the shortest ascent route in terms of time and takes approximately 2.5 hours. From the summit of Pilsko, there are views of Veľký Choč and Malá Fatra. This means that the route focuses on both the protected landscape and the ascent and summit experience with its two viewpoints.

Culture

The Pilsko children's folklore ensemble was founded in 1972. Its task is to revive, seek out and record the songs, customs, games and dances of older residents of the municipality. Through songs, games and rhymes, the ensemble preserves the Goral dialect. As a result, the cultural heritage appears not only in stage forms, but also in language, memories and traditional forms of expression.

Amateur theatre has been performed in Oravské Veselé since 1922. A traditional cultural event in Oravské Veselé is Veselovská nedeľa, which takes place on 9 August 2026. Both references belong to a local culture in which theatre and a scheduled traditional event stand alongside the children's ensemble's folklore.

History

The first wooden church in Oravské Veselé was completed in 1656 and dedicated to Saint Elizabeth. The new masonry church was completed in 1815; its construction took ten years. Three altars from the wooden church were transferred to this new masonry church. Beside the church stands the Baroque sculpture of Saint Mary Magdalene; it is listed under ÚZPF number 2660.
