Holiday apartment in Horný Vadičov: Nature, winter sports and culture

Ľadonhora is located in Horný Vadičov and, at 999.20 m above sea level, is the highest point in the municipality. Ľadonhora is also a state nature reserve. The landscape therefore appears in two clearly defined aspects: as the highest point in the municipality and as a protected area.

Winter sports

At the Snowsun Vadičov ski resort, parking spaces are available for visitors directly below the lift. The ski resort can be reached by bus and car; a bus stop is located 200 metres from the ski resort. The lift facilities are also described specifically: the ski resort has two TATRAPOMA drag lifts, each with a sloping length of 650 metres. The information about the parking spaces, bus stop and lifts refers directly to Snowsun Vadičov. Both public transport and car travel are therefore mentioned for the journey; the bus stop is not at the same point as the ski resort, but 200 metres away. The parking spaces, on the other hand, are described as being directly below the lift.

Mountain bike route

The demanding “Terchová–Žilina přes kopce” mountain bike route passes through Horný Vadičov. The route is approximately 54 kilometres long and has more than 1,200 metres of elevation gain. It is intended for experienced mountain bikers and for e-bikes capable of handling long climbs and fast descents. The distance is expressly given as an approximate figure, while the elevation gain is stated as more than 1,200 metres. Both figures belong to the described route passing through Horný Vadičov. The length and elevation gain describe different requirements of the same route: the approximately 54 kilometres represent its extent, while the more than 1,200 metres of elevation gain indicate the climbs it contains. The stated suitability for experienced riders and correspondingly powerful e-bikes remains linked to these long climbs and fast descents.

Culture and religious buildings

The “Kostol sv. Mikuláša biskupa” church in Horný Vadičov was consecrated on 2 July 1806. It is a Neoclassical single-nave church with a segmentally terminated presbytery and an integrated tower approximately 30 metres high with a pyramidal roof. The church is in good condition and continues to serve its religious purpose. The village’s religious heritage also includes the “božie muky” wayside shrine, which contains a statue of the Virgin Mary. The church thus combines a precisely dated event with clearly described architecture. Its appearance includes the single-nave structure, the segmentally terminated presbytery and the integrated tower with a pyramidal roof. The wayside shrine complements this heritage with the statue of the Virgin Mary.

Events

The carnival procession with the symbolic burial of the double bass, as well as “Hudobné leto vo Vadičove”, are among the regularly held cultural and sporting events in Horný Vadičov. Visitors were invited to dance and sing with the Vajčovci folk group at the “Váľanie mája” event announced for 30 May 2026. Thus, alongside the landscape, winter sports and cycling, named cultural dates and local traditions are also central. For “Váľanie mája”, both the date and the participating Vajčovci folk group are specified. The invitation to dance and sing describes the planned setting of the event, while the carnival procession and “Hudobné leto vo Vadičove” are classified as regularly held events.
